Somnia Chain
To the people who use it, Somnia is one chain, reached through one unified API. Underneath, the Somnia Global L1 delivers high throughput and global resilience, and Regional Subchains add low-latency, high-throughput execution in the financial centres where trading happens, colocated with other venues. Every part is EVM-compatible, with sub-second finality, sub-cent fees and accounts built for trading.
One chain. Global resilience, regional speed..
Why Somnia Chain
One chain, one API
Apps, wallets and agents connect to Somnia once. The same unified API reaches the Global L1 and every Regional Subchain, so users never have to pick a chain or switch networks.
Global resilience
The Somnia Global L1 is run by validators around the world, so the network keeps producing blocks and settling trades whatever happens in any one region.
Regional speed
Regional Subchains are low-latency, high-throughput chains placed in trading hubs and colocated with other venues. In Tokyo, that puts markets within the shortest reach of Binance and Hyperliquid.
Price gas predictably
IceDB reports deterministic performance, so gas reflects actual work and the base price holds at 6 gwei outside of congestion.
Deploy what you already have
Somnia is EVM compatible. Solidity contracts, standard wallets and familiar tooling work without changes.
Verify every transaction twice
Validators run every transaction through Cuthbert, an independent implementation, and halt on any divergence.
A global L1 and Regional Subchains
The Global L1 is the backbone: global, resilient and built for throughput. Regional Subchains sit in the financial centres where trading happens, colocated with other venues for the lowest latency. One unified API reaches them all.
| Product | What it is |
|---|---|
| Somnia Global L1 | High throughput and global resilience |
| Tokyo Subchain | Low latency in Asia-Pacific, colocated with Binance and Hyperliquid |
| New York Subchain | Low latency for the Americas, colocated in New York |
What makes Somnia fast
The technology under the Global L1, shared by every Regional Subchain.
- MultiStream consensus. Every validator publishes its own data chain. A separate consensus chain, running modified PBFT, advances the heads of all data chains at once.
- Global ordering. A deterministic pseudorandom ordering of the data chains produces a single ordered stream of transactions.
- Accelerated sequential execution. EVM bytecode is compiled to native code, so hot contracts run at speeds close to hand-written C++.
- IceDB. A purpose-built database with built-in snapshotting and 15 to 100 nanosecond reads and writes.
- Advanced compression. Streaming compression and BLS signature aggregation keep bandwidth low as throughput rises.
Capabilities
- Unified API. One API for the Global L1 and every Regional Subchain.
- Colocated subchains. Regional Subchains sit beside other venues' matching engines.
- EVM compatible. Solidity, standard wallets and existing tooling work unchanged.
- Sub-second finality. Transactions are final in under 500 ms on mainnet.
- Sub-cent fees. A SOMI transfer costs 0.000126 SOMI at the 6 gwei base price.
- Sustained-use discounts. Automatic 70% or 90% base-fee discounts for high-volume senders.
- Cuthbert. An unoptimised second implementation that every validator runs to catch execution bugs.
- Proof of stake. Validators stake SOMI and are subject to slashing for malicious behaviour.
- ERC-4337 EntryPoint v0.7. Standard smart-account infrastructure deployed on mainnet.
- EIP-7702. Externally owned accounts can delegate to smart-account code.
- Session transactions. Pre-authorised transaction sequences for uninterrupted activity.
- Paymasters. Venues sponsor gas for their users on the actions they choose.
- Self-custodial smart accounts. Permissions and recovery without handing funds to a custodian.
